2009 Fall Carlisle: September 30th – October 4th at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds

Post-War ’74 to Fall Carlisle 2009 - 35 Years as the Peak of the Automotive Hobby Season

Monday, September 14, 2009

Post War ’74 was the first automotive event held at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds in 1974. 35 years later, with twelve events and auctions throughout the year, the re-named Fall Carlisle is still the staple and peak of the Carlisle Events automotive event season. Fall Carlisle is a utopia to collector, classic and custom car and truck enthusiasts, and signals the ending of the automotive hobby season for hobbyists living in the northern United States and Canada. For five days – September 30 – October 4 – Fall Carlisle, held at the 102-acre Carlisle PA Fairgrounds, is home to a unique and massive crowd of folks who share one common passion: love for all things automotive. In addition to the camaraderie shared at Fall Carlisle, these “gear-heads” come from all across the United States, Canada, Europe and even Asia for the shopping experience. 8,100 spaces, with limited space still available, will be jam packed with automotive parts, accessories and memorabilia including more than 1,800 vehicles of all makes, models and prices for sale in the car corral. To top off all of the shopping during the daytime, the buying and selling excitement will continue on Thursday and Friday evenings at the Fall Carlisle Collector Car Auction. The Fall Carlisle Auction, in its fifth year and held at the Carlisle Expo Center just across the street from the fairgrounds, is set to be the best Carlisle Auctions event to date because of the amount, diversity and quality of consignments.

The cars that will cross the auction block are truly in tune with Carlisle Auctions’ promise of providing guests with the Ultimate Buying Experience. If you are hoping to buy the perfect all-original pre-war American luxury sedan, a classic ‘50s European sports coupe or a perfectly restored example of late ‘60s Detroit muscle, they will have them all.

Adding to the automotive playground of the famously well-attended swap meet and car corral and the excitement of the collector car auction will be a display of the future and past of automotive history, in the form of a GM Futurliner. Twelve Futurliners toured the country from coast to coast in the 1940s and ‘50s. Each in this Parade of Progress displayed modern advances in science and technology such as jet engines, stereophonic sound, microwave ovens, television and many other modern marvels of the time. Only nine Futurliners are known to exist, five of which are in total disrepair. Futurliner No. 10 – laboriously restored to its original condition by Don Mayton and 30 volunteers and owned by the NATMUS museum will be at this year’s Fall Carlisle event to show off the outstanding restoration of this truly breathtaking piece of automotive history.
